Getting to UUA General Assembly 2017

Supporting People of Color and Indigenous Folks to New Orleans


We're thrilled to be able to provide an update after Black Lives of UU's advocacy and support by the UUA Board of Trustees to make additional funds available to support over 200 People of Color and Indigenous folks to General Assembly in New Orleans. We were overwhelmed with the interest and are excited to gather in New Orleans!

Folks receiving support should have already received additional information via the email you used to apply. See more details about the specifics of the logistics below.


If you indicated an interest in getting assistance with registration, you should have received a confirmation automatically generated by the UUA General Assembly office. If you haven’t gotten a confirmation and need to be registered or reimbursed, please email us directly at and


If you indicated a need for transportation support to New Orleans, you should have already heard from DiDi or Nora connecting you with our colleagues at ProTravel to coordinate your transportation to New Orleans. If you applied for support and still need transportation to get to New Orleans please email us immediately at and as we need to finalize any and all fights/trains/car rental by TOMORROW Friday, June 16th 5:00pm ET/2:00pm PT.

If you will need transportation when you arrive in New Orleans, there are a number of options. Ridesharing services including Lyft and Uber pick up directly at the airport. We also have coordinated a discount code with Super Shuttle and you can email and for those details.


If you requested housing support and did not have housing already booked, DiDi or Nora will be in touch in the next day with details about your housing location and connecting you with your roommate (if you indicated you would be willing to share a room). If you indicated an interest in receiving per diem while in New Orleans on your application,  you will receive that in New Orleans.

You will need to sign-in at the general GA registration table prior to picking up your per diem as you’ll use your name badge (or a photo ID) to pick up your per diem in the form of a PEX card. It can be used like cash anywhere visa is accepted. No receipts are needed for your per diem.

To get your PEX card go  to the Scholarship and Ribbons Kiosk in front of the GA Office, which is located in the Great Hall Lobby at the Convention Center in New Orleans. They will have a list of folks who indicated such and provide you with a pre-loaded PEX card.

For folks who just heard from us about additional funds released in the last week, please email us by Friday, June 16th 5:00pm ET/2:00pm PT so we can coordinate having cash on site for you.


We know a number of folks indicated they needed support with transportation and/or housing but had already booked when the application went live. If that is the case, you will receive a link to upload your receipts. We are able to reimburse up to $500 for each. We will then process the check request and a check will be cut directly from the UUA and sent to the address you provide us with. These checks will be cut AFTER General Assembly.
