Click here to read our recent stories about Immigrant Justice.

Love has no borders, love keeps families together, love respects the inherent worth and dignity of all people.

Side with Love supporters have been instrumental faith voices advocating for immigration justice, acting in solidarity with our immigrant justice partners across the country.  The past few years have seen both heart-warming victories in the migrant justice movement, and heart-breaking steps backwards. You can take action NOW to ask Congress to Stand on the Side of Love with Immigrant Families!

Join the UU College of Social Justice on a Border Trip

Our partners at the UU College of Social Justice offer incredible educational journeys across the world, and the U.S., including several journeys a year to the U.S./Mexico border, where human rights are at stake. Through meetings with partners, listening to migrants tell their stories, and walking the dangerous desert paths so many of them risk in crossing the border, you will experience the depth of the immigration crisis firsthand. UUCSJ works closely with partner organizations, like BorderLinks, and when you go on a journey with UUCSJ, know that it is grounded in theological reflection and conversations about how our faith calls us forward to action. You’ll return home prepared and inspired to be a leader for immigration justice.

Resources from the UUA on immigration justice

The UUA has a long history of organizing in solidarity with immigrants. Access worship materials, educational resources, congregational stories and more here.

Sanctuary Congregations

The Sanctuary Movement was revived in 2014, with UUs in many cities getting involved, including First Unitarian Denver. After nine months in Sanctuary, Arturo Hernandez Garcia was able to return to his family. As of January 2017, First Unitarian and First Universalist in Denver are currently supporting Ingrid Encalada Latorre as part of the Metro Denver Sanctuary Coalition. Additional UU Congregations are involved. Let us know how your congregation is engaged at

Witness for Justice

Get together with allies in your community to hold a vigil or visibility event and raise your voices publicly for compassionate immigration reform. Although there is little hope for progressive legislation that will pass in this current Congress, there is still much work to be done so that Congress does not pass anti-immigrant bills. If you hold an advocacy meeting with your member of Congress, this is a great time to also witness outside your representative’s district office.

Here are some tips for a successful witness event:

  • Bring your Side with Love gear (shirts, banners, placards) along with signs of solidarity to defend communities, fight oppression and resist borders.

  • Let the media know that you are talking and praying with your members of Congress.  For talking point ideas, see the Interfaith Immigration Coalition Communication Toolkit.

  • Songs, testimonials, and prayers will enliven your vigil. See UU Worship Materials on Immigration for inspiration!
