No Thanks Given: Join a local protest to demand Avelo airlines cancel their contract with ICE
You may have heard that Avelo Airlines is the only commercial airline with a contract with ICE to operate deportation flights. Avelo Airlines’ customer base is folks, perhaps like you, who are traveling next week to visit friends and family.
As Unitarian Universalists, we know that each person deserves respect and dignity. We reject the violence of policing and punishment and imagine a world where safety is rooted in care, not cages. Avelo airlines is doing the opposite.
Will you join us for a “No Thanks Given” protest of Avelo? No Thanks Given: Join a local protest to demand Avelo airlines cancel their contract with ICE!
In April, Avelo Airlines entered into a $150 million contract with ICE to operate deportation flights. We are organizing through the National Coalition to Stop Avelo to demand that Avelo Airlines end their dirty ICE contract, and that all public and private partners of the airline end their partnerships with Avelo until they do so.
Numerous news outlets have reported and human rights organizations have tracked that over the past year, thousands of the individuals on these flights have been denied due process, are being physically restrained and shackled against their will, and are being deported to countries where they could face severe violence, separation from family, or life-threatening conditions.
On one of the busiest travel days of the year, we invite you to join the “No Thanks Given” protest at your local regional airport on November 30th.
We have 3 invitations for you:
Will you share details this protest with your congregation on Sunday?
Join our connection and preparation call on Monday, November 24th. We will make sure you have an overview of the Stop Avelo campaign, connect with Unitarian Universalists across the country involved in this fight, and make a plan for your signs and who you can bring with you to the protest. Register here .
Go to your local protest and tell us about it afterwards by sending an email and photos to love@uua.org.
If you can’t come on the 30th or simply want to do more, get activated here or reply to this email and let us know what you’re already doing!
All of us deserve to get to school, work, worship and back home safely. We cannot stop every ICE abduction but let us continue to unite in solidarity across every part of the country because an organized community is a safer community.
