Celebrating One Year of the UU Climate Justice Revival: November 2025 Update from Create Climate Justice

Celebrating One Year of the UU Climate Justice Revival: November 2025 Update from Create Climate Justice

This time last year, congregations were deep in the joy of Reimaginging Together a future where all communities thrive.  Thousands of UUs in over 400 UU congregations in the United States, Mexico, Canada, and the Virgin Islands engaged in the first-ever UU Climate Justice Revival. While we had high hopes for the Revival, the ways you brought the Revival to life were the most inspiring of all.  You reimagined your community thriving, fully embraced the complexity of the Challenging Realities in your community, and dreamed big with those Opportunities for Community Care.  Each and every one of you found your place in the Sacred Circles of which we all are a part.

The Revival impacted our congregations in large and small ways that were personal and institutional, affecting our relationships and our communities.  Those impacts continue to ripple out in ever-unfolding ways.  From advocating for energy justice and a clean energy future at the Public Utility Commission in Georgia to pressuring the City Council to reject utility contracts that risk the health and safety of low-income people in Colorado, to completely reorienting climate action to center justice and spiritually grounded actions in California, and so many more ways, UUs, YOU UUs, continue to transform our communities and nourish our spirits with your faithful commitment to climate justice.

We are so grateful for you and the beautiful work you are doing.  Thank you!

We celebrate you - and we want to know more!  Help us mark this year of Climate Justice Revival by sharing how the Revival impacted you and your community.  What ideas emerged from the Revival and how are those actions taking shape in your community?  Add to the ongoing inspiration that we all need so much right now by sharing the story of your Revival!

Share feedback about the revival

While we’re in the mood for a celebration, we have a few more for you!  I’m excited to uplift all of the brilliant ways UU congregations are mobilizing for climate justice at our annual Green Sanctuary Celebration!  You can sign up to share your congregations progress or join the Celebration to learn what others are doing, get connected, and have some fun together!  During the Celebration, we will honor all of the congregations who received Green Sanctuary 2030 Recognition for their impactful work on our Four Essentials for Climate Justice in 2025.  Get your congregation on that list!

I look forward to being with you all at the next Green Sanctuary 2030 Community Meeting: Carbon Neutral by 2050.  Our Community meetings are a place for congregations to come together for shared learning and mutual supports with UUs who are transforming our congregations through climate justice.  Host a watch party in your congregation to spark conversations on the ways you can bring the Four Essentials to life.  Join the conversation!

You all are a never-ending source of inspiration for me.  The work you all are doing, the climate actions your advancing, the climate justice ministries that are making your communities so much better for everyone, these are all give me so much hope.  Let us celebrate you and all the ways you are mobilizing for climate justice.

Let’s Celebrate Your Congregation at the Green Sanctuary Celebration!

The annual celebration of UU Climate Justice is just around the corner…what will your congregation share?

During the celebration, Green Sanctuary 2030 teams share very brief updates on their climate actions. We all get so many fantastic ideas and leave inspired by the ways UUs are advancing climate justice in our communities.

It’s fast, it’s fun, and YOU are the ones who make it happen.  There will be good music, giveaways, and great ideas!  Don’t miss it!

Apply for Green Sanctuary 2030 Recognition!

Here’s your friendly reminder to Apply for Recognition by the end of the year!  Several UU congregations have received Recognition so far this year…with more to celebrate in the coming months!  sure you’re on the list!

If you share your progress for 2024-25, we’ll send you a new poster with 2025 on it to celebrate.

To receive Recognition, you need to complete at least one significant action for each of our Four Essentials of Climate Action!  Bonus: hosting a Revival counts for Congregational Transformation!  With just ONE REQUIREMENT for Annual Recognition (Sharing Progress), there’s no better time to recommit to climate justice.

(Are you not sure what I’m talking about?  Watch the Orientation video and bring your questions and ideas to the Green Sanctuary 2030 Office Hours on November 5 at 7ET)

Fight the Repeal of the Federal Greenhouse Gas Reporting Requirements

The Environmental Protection Association wants to make it easier for large, industrial polluters to pollute. Since 2009, the Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program has required industrial polluters to report their annual emissions. This effort aligns with the EPA’s recent move to eliminate the Endangerment Finding which affirms that greenhouse gas emissions harm public health. The Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program is critical to measuring the pollution that drives climate change and disruption; repealing it would hamper climate progress and endanger public health.  Submit a Public Comment against  the proposed repeal of the Greenhouse Gas Reporting Requirements.  Read more on Side With Love’s Holding the EPA Accountable page, and let us know if you do!

Did you miss the October Green Sanctuary 2030 Meeting:  Claiming Our Power to Fight for a Clean Energy Future?

On October 15, 2025, UU Georgia Legislative Action Network offered their learnings on how to make good trouble for climate justice with their current campaign: reminding the Georgia Utility Commissioners and Elected Officials that people have the power to choose a just and moral path for our energy future.  Public Utility Commissions (PUCs) regulate utility prices, resource planning and acquisition, reliability and quality of service regulation. Advocating at Public Utility Commissions is an incredibly impactful way to shape our energy future but can seem confusing and overwhelming.  By design, the process is intimidating and benefits those who are more concerned with profit than people. PUCs wield significant power and their decisions affect clean energy and air quality, impacting both greenhouse gas mitigation and climate resilience.  As people of faith and conscience, we are called to respond! Review the  webinar for techniques and tactics to make this good trouble in your state!
