Is your congregation thinking about climate disasters?

It takes just a quick glance at the news to realize that climate disasters are getting worse and more frequent.  From the fires in Canada, Colorado, and California to the historic flooding in Texas to the extreme heat and air quality alerts pretty much everywhere, we’re experiencing some of the worst impacts of climate change.  It’s no longer a matter of “if disaster strikes our community”, it’s a matter of when it will happen and how bad it will be.  To add to the troubles, the U.S. Government is cutting funding for NOAA, the National Weather Service, and FEMA.

What can we do when the services that are supposed to protect our communities are rapidly disappearing?  We take care of each other.  UUs have always been on the leading edge of climate action, and now it’s time for us to double down on disaster preparedness and response efforts to build community resilience in the face of devastating climate disasters.

How do we go about creating a hub of resilience?  An easy first move is to join the Green Sanctuary 2030 Community Meeting: Creating A Hub of Community Resilience in Clemson, SC on August 20 at 7pm ET / 4pm PT / 3pm AT / 1pm HT.

Turning our congregations into Hubs of Community Resilience is an opportunity to steward our resources for the good of our broader community. Learn how the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Clemson is exploring the possibilities of installing solar with battery backup to turn their congregation into a Hub of Community Resilience when the power goes out, as recently happened with hurricane Helene.

This is the first of our fall Green Sanctuary 2030 Community Meetings, which will also include:

Sign up for all of the fall meetings today, and bring your friends!
