Recording from January 2026 Gathering: Economic Noncooperation
On Monday, we gathered as part of the faithful masses of people showing up to build a world where the worth and dignity of all are held as sacred and unshakable truth. We know that from Venezuela to Minneapolis, red lines are being crossed by this regime again and again as it is amassing power to try to stop us. But we must also claim our wins: last week we won the campaign to get Avelo Airlines to stop working with ICE!
Monday’s Gathering was full of inspiration, nitty gritty real talk, and reminders of all that is at stake right now. We hope that you left filled up with the prayer and music from Rev. Mykal Slack, more clear on strategy behind economic boycott campaigns from Nicole Pressley’s sharing, inspired by stories of congregations from Illinois to North Carolina, and more hopeful hearing Rev. Ashley Horan’s reminder that “The best time to have done this work is over the last decade. The second best time is right now.”
Will you take 2 minutes to share your feedback from the Gathering and what you’re up to?
We know you are acting already, and we invite you into these events and practices to fortify your actions:
Join a strategic non-cooperation campaign
Attend Thursday’s Organizing works: celebrating our Avelo wins & planning what next with our partners at Defend and Recruit: January 15th at 8pm ET
Join another effective boycott (Boycott Central is a terrific resource)
Join a Solidarity Session to connect with other UUs around immigration at starting Feb 5, 4:30 ET / 1:30 PT by the UU Solidarity Initiative
Ground yourself: What is 1 thing you will do to tend to your spirit and regulate this week?
Amplify: What is one thing from The Gathering that you will share with 3 people today?
If you missed us live, you can watch the recording and view the presentation slides. We encourage you to bookmark the webpage for The Gathering to see all the dates, a promotion kit, recordings, crisis resources, and links.
I invite you to let us know which of these actions (or others!) you are taking this month, and be sure to read our Action Center Weekly Update for specific actions you can take this week. We publish the update every Tuesday on our Action Center.
