From Columbus to White Christian Nationalism today - Resources from October Gathering
The Gathering is designed to stoke the fierce love of solidarity. On Monday, we gathered to remember that the problems we are facing now are not new - they are at least 500 years old. Rev. Dr. Clyde Grubbs took us on that 500+ year journey through the history that has brought us to this moment, in which we are living a different flavor of the same extractive White Christian Nationalism that undergirds this entire nation’s history. Defeating this particular fascist movement will take more than the next 4 years, and so it matters that we gather to rekindle our collective hope and focus our faithful actions.
We hope you were inspired by Tie Resendiz de Perez’s storytelling, the tenacious struggle to protect Oak Flat, the Zoom full of folks taking faithful action, and by the insights and invitations from Clyde and Rachel.
If you missed us live, you can watch the recording and view the presentation slides. We encourage you to bookmark the webpage for The Gathering to see all the dates, a promotion kit, recordings, crisis resources, and links.
Our faith officially repudiated the Doctrine of Discovery in 2012. This was an important step, but the work is far from done. Here are the next steps we invited you into at The Gathering:
Ground yourself. What is 1 thing you will do to tend to your spirit and regulate this week?
Share about Oak Flat with at least 2 people you will tell about the Oak Flat struggle (here’s the video we shared, and the livestream of the vigil on site on Monday.
Write a letter to the editor about Oak Flat using this Toolkit
Use our Grounding in Our Context Tool from the Green Sanctuary 2030 materials
I invite you to let us know which of these actions (or others!) you are taking this month, and be sure to read our Action Center Weekly Update for specific actions you can take this week. We publish the update every Tuesday on our Action Center.

The strength of our movements has always been found in our ability to come together. May we continue acting in wider and wider networks of courage, and we will see you again in November.
