Join UU Solidarity Initiative's National Action Hours for Immigration Justice

We hope you have found moments of joy this spring and feel energized as summer approaches. The Solidarity Initiative would like to invite you to engage with us in some next steps in the fight against ICE and CBP funding.

The Department of Homeland Security budget was passed in April, ending a 76-day shutdown that all started because people around the nation demanded real, structural reforms to ICE and CBP. Members of Congress are now planning to advance a $70 billion-dollar reconciliation bill focused on funding ICE and CBP—a bill that requires only a party-line vote and fails to pursue reforms to safeguard human dignity. This is on top of the hundreds of billions these agencies received last year in the last reconciliation bill. This reconciliation bill would result in billions more for ICE and CBP without any checks or balances.

Interfaith groups are coming together to try to stop this reconciliation bill. We are demanding that representatives, particularly those who have shown some willingness to cross the aisle on immigration issues, vote NO on this bill.

Here’s how you can get involved:

Join the National Call Blitz

Image description: Bright yellow background with “UU Solidarity Initiative” in black; a monarch butterfly hovers over the ‘e’. Underneath reads: Call Blitz to Congress, with a stick figure holding a smartphone. A word bubble reads “No ICE funding” with a blue text box that reads “Calling key members of Congress every 3 minutes on May 19 from 9am - 5pm ET!”

We will be calling four key representatives in the House every three minutes on Tuesday, May 19. This is in solidarity with Faith in Action’s national call-in day.

Sign up to become a pod captain and then recruit 20 callers. Each caller commits to just 4 minutes of calling! We are piloting new organizing software called Call Tsunami to make our call blitzes easier for participants. We will offer a training zoom for captains on Friday, May 15 at 12pm ET/ 9am PT. Join using the training using this link.

To become a captain, sign up here. If those slots are full, then sign up here.

Write to your representative by using the e-action hosted by UUSJ

UUSJ makes it easy to contact your representative and ask them to oppose the reconciliation bill. Click here to email your representative.
